An Overview of the Benjamin

All About The Benjamin

This year, the Seaport District in Boston welcomed part of its largest development project in three decades. Now, The Benjamin is welcoming new tenants to its luxury, open floor plan units in the heart of the Seaport District. For the neighborhood, it is an answer to many prayers. The Seaport District has boomed with new retail and commercial developments for the better part of five years, and a team of developers from Berkshire Group, WS Development, and Boston Global Investors saw a need for more housing.

The project.

The project began in 2014. Berkshire Group, WS Development, and Boston Global Investors conceived of The Benjamin as part of their $600 million One Seaport Square project. Once finished, One Seaport Square will span 23 acres of newly developed space, including retail, professional, and entertainment facilities. As for housing, One Seaport Square features two new residential buildings: The VIA, a waterfront luxury housing building in which you can also find vacancies on Boston Luxury Apartment, and The Benjamin.

When asked about the project by Commercial Property Executive, Dick Marks, a partner at WS Development, said “We view the Seaport as the future of the City of Boston, we are building a city within the city.”

The neighborhood.

The Seaport District, or South Boston Waterfront, as many lifelong Bostonians prefer to call it, sits north of First Street in South Boston. It includes breathtaking views of Boston Harbor, and is across the water from downtown and East Boston.

The MBTA Silver Line bus runs through the neighborhood, whisking commuters to South Station or Logan Airport with very little fuss. But, thanks to all the new stores, hotels, office space, restaurants, and other commercial development, many Seaport District residents will likely find fewer occasions than expected to leave this “city within the city.”

The building.

Now complete, the luxury high rise sits atop 120,000 square feet of high-end retail including The Grand, Scorpion Bar, and Equinox. Units start at $2,860 per month for a studio and range in size up to 3-bedroom apartments, which start at $8,631 per month. There are more than 200 units, all designed with open concept living in mind – high ceilings, open floor plans, floor to ceiling windows, oversized bathrooms, and other features add up to a luxury housing experience that offsets the claustrophobic atmosphere plaguing many Boston dwellers.

For their considerable rent bill, tenants at The Benjamin enjoy some truly spectacular amenities. There is a rooftop courtyard with a pool, an outdoor kitchen and barbeque, fireside retreat and espresso bar and lounge for the colder months, a business center, in-unit laundry, and more.

Tenants are also paying for a spectacular location. In addition to the retail space within the building, The Benjamin is right next to Courthouse Square, a site of plenty of green space, shopping, dining, and the Courthouse MBTA station. As the many projects that are part of One Seaport Square are completed in the coming months, residents will enjoy easy access to even more shopping, dining, and impeccable community space.
